SAM STUBBS

Sam Stubbs founded Simplicity, a not-for-profit KiwiSaver provider, in 2016. Prior to this, he built a successful career in banking, working with Goldman Sachs in London and Hong Kong before returning to New Zealand. He later became Managing Director of Hanover Group, a decision he openly admits was driven by financial incentives but ultimately regrettable. He left the role in February 2009 after just seven months.

Throughout his career, Stubbs has held positions at NatWest Markets, Fay, Richwhite, and IBM NZ. He has also served on the board of the Financial Services Council and as a member of the Government Taskforce on Financial Services.

He holds an MA (Hons) from the University of Auckland and fondly remembers making his first $1,000 at just 12 years old, installing phone extensions in West Auckland. At the time, the Post Office allowed only one line per house, so he used salvaged parts from the Henderson Post Office repair centre’s rubbish bin to complete the installations.
